Natural Pet Grooming FAQ
Fragrance on a label can indicate the presence of up to 4,000 separate ingredients. Most or all of them are synthetic.
To keep both pets and humans safe we do not add fragrance to our products. We let each of the ingredients individual aromas harmonize to build the natural and light scent found in our pet shampoos. As our shampoos are very concentrated, the after-bath effect is a clean earthy smell that isn’t overwhelming.
The shampoo is brown primarily due to the raw apple cider vinegar and clay they contain. This makes sense because if you combined all the natural colours in a colour wheel they would make brown. We do not add any artificial colorants or use chemically altered (bleached) or synthetic ingredients. The result is the natural brown color seen in our pet shampoos.
For white or mostly white pets, our shampoos are colour safe.
Dogs: We often recommend washing your dog once per month. Although, the frequency can change based on how dirty your dog gets.
For severely dry or itchy skin standard protocol is to wash with our Foam Free Horse Shampoo, formulated for dry and itchy skin, weekly until itch subsides.
Cats: Cats are natural self-groomers. Wet bathing is often only necessary when the cat is excessively dirty or has strong odor. We suggest if your cat requires additional help with coat maintenance to use our Volcanic Dry Powder Cat Shampoo no more than once per week, along with regular brushing.
For hairless cats, we suggest using our Foam Free Dog or Horse Shampoos (depending on your cat's skin care needs) and washing only as necessary to maintain optimal skin health.
Morrocco Method pet shampoos are formulated with pet skin pH, thickness and sensitivities in mind. Through plant science, we have specifically designed our pet shampoos to meet and exceed the needs of our four legged friends.
As some of the ingredients in the regular MM shampoos have limonene, a naturally occurring component of citrus fruit, it makes them unsafe for use in cats.
No. The plant botanicals in the Morrocco Method 5 Elements Volcanic Dry Powder Cat Shampoo are included in powdered form and safe for cats. We understand that cats tend to self-groom, rest assured while we do not advocate feeding the dry shampoo to your cat, it will not cause them any harm.
The Mixed Boar Bristle Brush is for pets with coarse or thick fur, while the Pure Boar Bristle Brush is recommended for pets with sensitive skin and thinner fur.
To maintain brush longevity, we suggest cleaning your Boar Bristle Brush by gently loosening any fur with a comb, careful not to pull out any of the brush bristles. Either dip the bristles, not the hairbrush or handle, into warm soapy water and gently work the bristles back and forth to cleanse; or place a few drops of shampoo onto the brush spread with a little water and rinse under warm running water. Make sure to hold the brush with the head pointing downwards so no water can enter the air hole at the end of the rubber pad. Rinse thoroughly and shake to remove moisture. Let air dry with bristles facing down.
Use a natural bristle brush (eg. a MM Pure Boar Bristle Brush) and gently brush the excess shampoo through your pet’s coat. This will help to remove the excess dry powder and/or work it more thoroughly to absorb oils and toxins from the skin. We do not recommend wet bathing your pet immediately after using the dry powder shampoo.
There are many factors that affect how much shampoo your pet may require during bathing. Size of pet, coat length, thickness of coat and coat quality all affect how much shampoo your pet will need. As our Morrocco Method 5 Elements Pet Shampoos are highly concentrated, we suggest diluting shampoo in a 1:1 ratio and massage into your pet’s skin.
Remember, you will want to bathe once to cleanse and twice to nourish skin and coat.
For example, a 60 lb. dog with a short coat may only require 1.0 oz. of shampoo diluted in a 1:1 ratio with water; while a 1,200 lb. horse with a summer coat may require 10 oz. of shampoo diluted in a 1:1 ratio with water.
Morrocco Method 5 Elements No Foam Pet Shampoos are incredibly concentrated, and sometimes it can be tough making sure the shampoo is getting to your pets’ skin and really cleansing. This is especially true with dogs who have thicker or curlier fur. To help work the shampoo through your pet’s fur we suggest using our Pure Rubber Massager.
For best use dilute the shampoo in a smaller bottle in a 1:1 ratio with water. Then, pour the mixture over the body of your pet and massage into the skin by hand or by our Pure Rubber Massager making sure to wash once to cleanse and twice to nourish. This will help to ensure that your pet’s skin is getting the raw nutrients from the shampoos and leaving fur with healthy shine.
Make sure not to add water to the shampoo until directly before you plan to bathe your pet. We do not use synthetic preservatives in our products and water is an excellent way to ensure mould growth.
Pets don’t dye, heat style or shampoo their hair as frequently as humans. This means that the detox period for a dog will be significantly less noticeable than a human. Instead what you might see is more texture and volume in your pet’s coat, along with incredible shine.
